Day 2 ! Sadly my wifi wasn’t working last night so I couldn’t upload a blog post, but that means a double update for today ! Yesterday we arrived in Barrie and I was beyond excited to meet the other delegates, me and my roommate Cassia have been having loads of fun together ! Next we all got ready for the pajama party, where I had lots of fun comparing slang and different pronunciations from our provinces.  Today we got up bright and early and got ready for our photo shoots ! Anayeli did my makeup and Jaden did my hair (a big task to take on considering how much hair I have), A huge thanks to everyone at Modern College for doing all of our hair and makeup ! After lunch we went to our second photo shoot in our casual outfits, while we waited we all played two truths and a lie ! After casual outfit photo shoots we put on our mtc shirts and headed down to the lake for videos and pictures ! The whole time listening to the Mamma Mia soundtrack ! After that all of us went out for some group pictures on the mini golf course ! While we were waiting we found a few new friends: two stick bugs which we named Doug and Frank ! Then it was time for dinner, chicken wraps with fries ! Dinner was filled with lots of laughs and becoming closer with my pageant sisters ! Tomorrow is activity day which will be so much fun ! That’s all for now, spread love and kindness !

Hey! Tomorrow is the first day of pageant week and I’m beyond excited ! The past few months have been crazy busy ! With fundraisers and studying for my associates exam to become a highland dance teacher, which I’m proud to say I passed with high marks ! I decided to sell masks as a fundraiser, donating half the funds to Children’s Wish and the other half to Feed Nova Scotia ! The fundraiser has been super hectic but I’m very proud to say I donated – $2585 through Gateway Meat Market; a local grocery store. I spent this fundraiser with many late nights sewing masks in my basement and it definitely paid off, because with what I donated to Gateway Meat Market, 1600 pounds of food was given to Feed Nova Scotia ! I wanted to make sure I did a fundraiser for Feed Nova Scotia, not only because my platforms food insecurity but because COVID-19 has had a huge impact on food stores at all food banks, most aren’t getting near enough food to help their community, especially with food insecurity being on the rise due to people not being able to work.
The other half of the funds were given to Children’s Wish, which after the fundraiser of making masks, I followed up by selling cookbooks ! My old dance school had boxes of cookbooks left from a fundraiser we did a few years back, so I gave them new covers, made some bookmarks and they were sold out within 18 hours ! In total I was able to donate $3500 to Children’s Wish and I look forward to working with them in the future ! Look out for more updates, I can’t wait to see what this week will bring ! That’s all for now, spread love and kindness !

My heart is broken for my province. I truly can’t believe such horrible things could happen so close to home. But we are strong, this province is built on tight knit communities and love. So I want to talk about how amazing our province is, instead of the devastating events that took place here. Nova Scotia; the province with deep roots in so many cultures, we thrive on diversity. We celebrate love and acceptance.  This is Nova Scotia, we take the time to get to know everyone we meet, we’re friendly and despite any differences we have we still look for similarities. I love my culture and learning about other people’s cultures. I strongly believe everyone should have the chance to learn about their culture and Nova Scotia, while we’re not perfect yet we strive to seek truth about our history. Nova Scotia is not faultless but even still we try so hard to be the best we can be and correct our mistakes. We’ve shown our true colours during this time of social distancing; at every chance I’ve seen communities support each other, leaving gifts at the end of driveways, making signs and leaving lunches for our essential workers and even a virtual kitchen party. This province is one, of love, friendship and solidarity. I love my province with everything in me and I am so proud of us. We are Nova Scotia strong.

Hello! My name is Machara and I am Miss Teenage Nova Scotia 2020! I’m so excited to begin this journey with you all, and I’m especially proud to be doing it representing my province and community!

I am a Highland Dancer and I’ve been dancing since I was two years old.My dance family is very close and we spend a lot of time together, they’re some of my best friends and biggest supporters, alongside my family. My family; my mom, dad and two sisters have moved around a few times, since my dad is in the military. Although I’ve lived in a few different places, Nova Scotia has always been home to me!

I really love the arts. I try to take any opportunity to dance and besides highland, I dance on my school’s dance team. We mainly do hip hop and contemporary, we’re all learning together which makes it even more fun. theatre and directing are another portion of the arts that I take part in.  directed my school’s play last year and I was supposed to co direct my school’s dinner theatre this year. Our drama club is small so we have to create our own plays, we work really hard to make our performances the best we can and we have the best time doing it. As someone who loves theatre I listen to a lot of musicals, Hamilton, Tuck Everlasting, Newsies and Beetlejuice are some of my favourites, although there are many, many more. Musicals have always been an interest of mine. Hairspray, Mamma Mia the Anne of Green Gables and the Anne and Gilbert musical really got me into theatre.

Speaking of Anne of Green Gables, reading is another one of my favourite things to do, Anne of Green Gables is one of my all time favourite books, I’ve been obsessed with the whole series since I was a little kid, I loved watching the movies, which lead to the TV show Anne With An E. Harry Potter, Percy Jackson and The Raven Cycle are some more of my favourites. There’s something about the idea of magic and the paranormal that really gets me, which is also why I love fantasy and action movies and TV shows like Marvel and Once Upon a Time.

I definitely have a great fondness for my community, Eastern Passage is a tight community, for a small town there’s a lot going on. I love taking part in community and school events, since my high school opened last year, there’s tons of opportunities to get involved. I’m part of my school’s student council, GSA and WE act group. We jump at any chance we’re given to give back to our community. Eastern Passage is a place where if you need help there’s always someone willing to help. Places like the Lions Club who have supported me personally and given me so many opportunities to do my best, whether it be speech competitions, dance fundraising or sponsoring me in not only my community pageant but in Miss Teenage Canada as well. In conclusion, even though I’ve only lived here a few years I feel like I’ve been here my whole life, the people here are incredible and it’s really one of my favorite places on earth, which is why I’m so proud to be representing them this summer.

That’s all for now! Spread love and kindness!
